This is an eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina carolina) which are one of my favorite lucky sights to see hiking. Once, I noticed every single mushroom I saw on the trail had a small bite out of it. A friend of mine informed me it was likely box turtles and I about died 😍 I like to think they are the forest fungi foodies and go around taste testing with very strong opinions.
